Brook Park is a city in Cuyahoga County in the US state of Ohio , immediately southwest of Cleveland . It is 7.5 square miles (19.5 km²) and had (2000) 21,218 inhabitants, 94.5% of them white.
The city is home to the US automotive industry; The Ford has a total of three plants for engines and castings represented. Furthermore, it houses the Glenn Research Center of NASA , which is engaged in the development of aerospace technologies.
The urban area is located 9.7 miles (15.6 km) southwest of downtown Cleveland and extends for about 5.1 miles (8.2 km) east-west and about 2.25 miles (3.6 km) ) in north-south direction. It is bounded to the north by Interstate 480 , to the east by West 130th Street (according to the Cleveland census) and to the south by Sheldon Boulevard and Sheldon Road . In the west the Rocky River forms the border.
Neighboring cities and towns are clockwise: Fairview Park and Cleveland to the north, Parma and Parma Heights to the east, Middleburg Heights and Berea to the south, and Olmsted and North Olmsted to the west.
In the western half of the outlined area is Cleveland Hopkins International Airport ; this is located entirely in Cleveland and protrudes from the northeast deep into the city area to almost the southern borderline. The Ford factories are to the east and the Glenn Research Center to the west of the airport.
The eastern half of the urban area is characterized by small-scale development, as is typical for middle-aged US suburbs. About halfway up Snow Road is a 1.6 mile (2.6 km) long commercial strip in an east-west direction. In the northeast of the city there is also a large regional cemetery, the Holy Cross Cemetery .
In addition to the airport, the city area is cut through by numerous traffic arteries, most of which run towards Cleveland. The Interstate 71 leads in a north-south direction approximately in the center of the city. There is also an expressway that leads from the intersection of those highways to the airport. Likewise, a total of three railway lines of the Norfolk Southern and the CSX run through the city in a north-east-south-west direction.
The city has a light rail link to Cleveland. The Red Line of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority runs from the airport via the railway lines to the center of Cleveland. The two stations, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Brookpark (sic!), At the level of the northern border line are still in Cleveland territory.
