Bruce County is a county in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario . The county seat is Walkerton in the Brockton parish . The population is 66,102 (2011), the area 4087.76 km², which corresponds to a population density of 16.2 inhabitants per km². The county is named after James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin , the Governor General of Canada from 1847 to 1854. It is partly on the Bruce Peninsula , which protrudes into the Huron Sea. Bruce Peninsula National Park is on the northern tip of the peninsula and Sauble Beach is on the west side .
