A breast star is an addition to the order decoration .

It often only differs from the actual order decoration in size or in small details. Depending on the order class, inferior or more noble material can be used for its production or for its evaluation in the rank of honor. The breast star is a form of grading of the order classes for the higher order classes such as Grand Cross , Commander or Officer . It was and is almost exclusively worn on the left side of the chest. It can be attached directly or through a ribbon or rosette made from ribbon. Statutes and corresponding laws regulate the layout and appearance. The breast star does not necessarily have to be a star, although this shape has a tradition.
