The Buško jezero is an artificial lake in the southwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is located in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the immediate vicinity of the border with Croatia , about 70 km from Split .

One third of the lake belongs to the territory of the Livno commune and two thirds to the Tomislavgrad commune . It originated in the early 1970s in the area that until then had been called Buško blato (in German: Buschko-Moor ) and was an extensive wetland area . The height of the water level today fluctuates between 699 and 715  m. i. J. . The lake has a maximum area of 57.7 km². The maximum amount of water in the lake is 800 million .

Orlovac hydropower plant

The Buško jezero is part of the Orlovac hydropower system. A canal connects it to the much smaller Lipa reservoir , which is almost at the same height and which drains into the Cetina . Via the Buško blato pumped storage power plant , it is possible, as required, to drain water from the Buško jezero into the reservoir or to pump it from the reservoir into the Buško blato. The Lipa reservoir in turn feeds the Orlovac hydropower plant ( HE Orlovac ) through a tunnel . This was built in 1973 in the village of Ruda , Otok municipality in Croatia at an altitude of 400 m above sea level. The power station has an output of 237 MW, which is generated by three turbines. The average annual electricity production is 365  GWh and is used almost exclusively to cover peak loads. In return, the electricity is supplied to the Podgradina substation near Livno via two 110 kV lines . The water from the power plant flows into the Cetina River.

The Buško jezero is a popular destination. Since 1996 there is a place International kayak - Regatta held.
