Buckcherry is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles . The band's name is a corruption of the name of rock 'n' roll -Musikers Chuck Berry .
history
Singer Josh Todd and lead guitarist Keith Nelson met through their joint tattoo artist and discovered common musical preferences. As a duo they have already recorded several demos until they founded the band Sparrow together with drummer Devon Glenn and bassist Jonathan Brightman . After numerous club appearances in Los Angeles, they were signed by DreamWorks Records and then changed their band name to Buckcherry, as this was necessary for legal reasons. Although the name also represents a spoonerism of Chuck Berry , the group also referred to the name of a drag queen they had met.
In 1999 Buckcherry released a critically acclaimed debut album with which they already achieved gold status in the USA and Canada. After an extensive tour, including as opening act for Lenny Kravitz and at the Woodstock III festival , they recorded their follow-up album in 2000. This was then released in 2001 under the title Time Bomb . However, it was viewed by critics as a disappointment and failed to match the success of the debut. While working on the third album, the band was plagued by several member changes and finally broke up in 2002.
In the following years Josh Todd and Keith Nelson were active with other musicians, such as former Guns N 'Roses members Slash , Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum . Todd was considered as a singer for a new band together, but was turned down by Slash. Eventually he and the other two former Guns-N'-Roses members formed the group Velvet Revolver with Scott Weiland as the singer . In 2003 singer Josh Todd released the solo album You Made Me . The 13 songs on the album corresponded to the well-known Buckcherry style, but were a bit harder overall.
In 2005 Josh Todd and Keith Nelson decided to found Buckcherry together with new musicians. In 2006 they released the first album after the break, 15 under the label Eleven Seven Music. This was critically acclaimed and was also very successful commercially, which was reflected in platinum awards in Canada and the USA. It also contained the group's biggest hit to date, Crazy Bitch . Two music videos were also produced for this song. With one, however, out of consideration for the music television, the expletives are missing, while the other, with uncensored text, was filmed with naked women in a strip club. The single Crazy Bitch was also nominated for a Grammy in 2007 in the category Best Hard Rock Performance .
In 2008 they took part in the extensive Crüe Fest tour of the band Mötley Crüe and in 2009 they supported Kiss on their North American tour. With the follow-up album Black Butterfly they achieved gold status in Canada again in 2008. The first single from it was Too Drunk (To Fuck) .
On a 2009 double CD, consisting of albums 15 and Black Butterfly , Too Drunk (To Fuck) was replaced by a cover version of the Deep Purple classic Highway Star . The bonus of this package was a third disc with two live recordings, an acoustic version and two pieces in demo version.
In summer 2010 Buckcherry released their fifth album All Night Long , which again offered a mixture of hard rock and half ballads. In the summer of 2014, the concept EP Fuck was released , which contains six songs with the word Fuck in the title and the Aerosmith cover Mama Kin as a bonus track .
