Budapest Kelenföldi vasútállomás is the fourth most important train station in the Hungarian capital, Budapest , after Keleti pályaudvar (east station) , Déli pályaudvar (south station) and Nyugati pályaudvar (west station) . In contrast to the three terminal stations, it was not named after the direction from which the regular train traffic came, but after the district in which it is located.

The train station is located on Etele tér in XI. District Újbuda , Kelenföld district. The terminus of tram lines 19 in the direction of Batthyány tér and 49 to Deák Ferenc tér and the terminus of the M4 underground line are right in front of the train station . Several bus lines start from the bus station on Etele tér.

To the north of the train station there is a branch to the southern railway bridge or through the Gellértberg tunnel to Déli pu. To the south, the routes divide towards Érd and Győr , Veszprém , Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg . The at Keleti pu. Departing trains to Vienna , Graz , Rijeka , Venice , Zagreb , Ljubljana also pass through the station.

history

Archduke Ladislaus Philipp of Austria arrived at Kelenföld train station in 1895 after his hunting accident in Arad , where he died three days later.

The Hungarian Reich Administrator Admiral Miklós Horthy von Nagybánya boarded a special train at Kelenföld station on the evening of October 17, 1944, which took him to Vienna as a prisoner of war in Germany.
