Budapest shoe design

A classic men's shoe model is called Budapest .

Emergence

It is not known where the name Budapest came from or who first used it. It is known that this shoe model has typical features of the Austro-Hungarian shoemaking tradition (e.g. perforation pattern and last shape) and has been manufactured in Budapest since the end of the 19th century .

features

Typical Budapest

The Budapest is characterized by the combination of the following features:

  • on a wide, relatively straight strips made
  • the last / shoe shows a high ("raised") and relatively broadly rounded tip (almost at an angle of 90 degrees)
  • double-stitched design (can be double-stitched, but does not have to be)
  • double sole
  • Derby shaft cut (open lacing) with attached heel cap
  • Wing cap
  • with Fullbrogue -Lochverzierung (predominantly) or smooth (as in the "Plain-Derby")

The main characteristic of the Budapest is its unmistakable shape of the last (one also speaks of the Budapest last in this context ). It is widely said that the Budapest man is a double-stitched derby with open lacing and is decorated with an attached heel cap, wing cap and “lyra perforation” . Accordingly, its higher toe is the essential distinguishing feature of the Budapester from the so-called full brogue in Derby lacing.

Manufacturer

In Germany there is a well-known manufacturer of Budapesters : the Bietigheim company Heinrich Dinkelacker , which produces the shoes by hand with its own employees in Budapest- Budafok . Also well-known shoe manufacturers of this classic men's shoe model are the Hungarian companies Vass Shoes and László Budapest as well as the company Oliver Gray .

use

The Budapest shoe is a pure men's shoe. Due to its overall rather chunky-looking shape, it is less suitable for slim men, but is a shoe that is optically ideal and harmonizes well with full-bodied men of larger stature (as it is also resilient). The hole decorations ( broguings ) as well as the double seam above the sole give this model a sporty, but sometimes also simple note.

A pair of shoes costs between 400 and 1,200 euros, but with proper care the Budapest shoe lasts around 20 years and longer.
