Federal shield

Federal shield of Germany

The federal shield is a German coat of arms , which, similar to the federal coat of arms , shows the red armored black federal eagle on a golden background in the national colors . In contrast to the federal coat of arms, however, it is a semicircular shield and the eagle is drawn differently. The federal shield is used exclusively on the service flag of the federal authorities (federal service flag), on the standard of the Federal Chancellor and certain federal authority heads, on the service flag of the naval forces of the Bundeswehr and on the troop flags of the Bundeswehr .

Just like the use of the official flag of the federal authorities (federal service flag) or the federal coat of arms , the use of the federal shield is reserved exclusively for the federal authorities; it may not be used by the citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany, § 124 OWiG . As a symbol of the covenant, it is not used by the federal states or municipalities.
