The castle Vyborg is an island castle in the town of Vyborg and in the Karelian Isthmus in Russia . The castle was founded in 1293 by the Swedish regent Torgils Knutsson . Construction began at the time of the third Swedish crusade against Russia on a small island in the innermost corner of Vyborg Bay.

Todays use

Today the interior of Vyborg Castle houses a museum about the history of the region ( Vyborgski rajon ). The castle tower, St. Olafturm, offers a good view of the city.
