The Burggymnasium Friedberg is an upper level high school in Friedberg (Hesse) , the district town of the Wetterau district .

history

The actual beginning of the history of the Burggymnasium is the founding of the grand ducal Hessian teachers' college within the walls of Friedberg Castle , which took place in 1817 and laid the foundation for further school development in Friedberg. A school in the true sense of the word has only existed within the castle area since 1905 with the establishment of the Schillerschule, a higher middle school exclusively for girls. From 1922, boys could also go to school on the historic site, in the “advanced school” that emerged from the teachers' seminar and is housed in its buildings. This was intended for the sons of farmers and farmers from more remote places in Wetterau and Vogelsberg. In 1956, the advanced school was renamed the Aufbaugymnasium with boarding school. The Burggymnasium Friedberg has existed in its current form since 1974, when the Schiller School and the advanced high school were merged. A well-known former student is the actor Bjarne Mädel , who became known for the role of Berthold "Ernie" Heisterkamp in the TV series Stromberg .

Upper secondary school

A high school in Hesse is only attended by students in the 11th, 12th and 13th grades. It concludes with the general higher education entrance qualification ( Abitur ). Learning is divided into the introductory phase and the qualification phase , in which points for the Abitur are already collected. The Burggymnasium Friedberg is attended by students who have acquired their secondary school leaving certificate either at a general grammar school , a secondary school or a comprehensive school within a radius of approx. 30 km. There is a close cooperation with the Henry Benrath School (comprehensive school) in Friedberg: several teachers teach at both schools at the same time.
