In 2018, around 8.361 million passengers were carried, with a turnover of over 8.879 million Swiss francs . The Aarau bus company operated under the umbrella brand AAR bus + bahn together with the Wynental and Suhrentalbahn from 2002 to 2018 .

The AAR bus + bahn tariff structure is integrated into the A-Welle tariff association .

history

On October 1, 1955, three chauffeurs with two rental vehicles founded the bus operation as an association, with the Wynentalbahn taking over management. The route network at that time already consisted of seven lines with a total length of 16 kilometers. The villages of Buchs , Rohr , the northern part of Suhr and the Aarau districts of Gönhard, Zelgli, Telli and Scheibenschachen were developed.

In 1960 the association turned into a stock corporation . The company name was now “Busbetrieb Aarau AG”. The route network was expanded several times and in 1976 bus operations took over the routes to Obererlinsbach , Küttigen and Biberstein from the PTT. Due to this expansion, the length of the route network was 38 kilometers and the vehicle fleet therefore had to be increased to 19 vehicles. The construction of a bus center in the Telli was therefore inevitable. In 1986 the Barmelweid line of the clinic of the same name was taken over and in 1990 the communities Eppenberg-Wöschnau , Schönenwerd and Gretzenbach were connected with a new line . The then bus line 8 was also extended from Lindenfeld to Suhr train station.

Vehicle fleet

The Aarau bus company owns 19 normal and 16 articulated buses from the manufacturers Solaris and HESS / Scania . All vehicles have low-floor entrances. Of the 19 normal buses, 13 have a hybrid drive.

Line network

The Aarau bus company operates a route network of 57 kilometers in length. In addition to the city of Aarau, the seven lines open up eight other municipalities in the canton of Aargau and in the canton of Solothurn .
