César 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 32nd Césars , the most important French film award, took place on February 24, 2007 in the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . The film 2006 was a 45 percent market share in Europe the most successful and 85 million moviegoers in 23 years for the local film industry, as the film producer Alain Terzian announced. Terzian is the current president of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma , which awards the film prizes. The French film was thus just behind the Hollywood productions, which had a European market share of 45.8 percent.

Favorite films

When the nominations were announced on January 26, 2007 by the French actress and director Valérie Lemercier , Guillaume Canet's No Death Word , Pascale Ferran's Lady Chatterley and Rachid Bouchareb's Days of Glory dominated the award ceremony with nine nominations each. All three films were successes with the French film audience and the number of visitors exceeded the million mark. The award for the best film of the year went to Ferrans Lady Chatterley , who became the most successful film of the evening with five trophies. The film adaptation of the novel by DH Lawrence of the same name was awarded the prestigious Louis Delluc Prize in 2006 and also won the trophies for the best adapted screenplay, camera and costume. Heroine Marina Hands , daughter of French actress Ludmila Mikaël , won the César for best actress. Just behind with four prizes won Guillaume Canet's No Death Word , who was successful in the categories of director and leading actor, among others. The thriller tells the story of a French pediatrician (twice nominated: François Cluzet ) who receives a mysterious email with a sign of life from his wife ( Marie-Josée Croze ), who allegedly fell victim to a serial killer eight years earlier. Rachid Bouchareb's war drama Days of Glory , set in France during World War II , was able to convert his nominations into a victory . The film reports on four French soldiers of Maghrebian descent who try to fight against the suppression of the German armed forces and the discrimination within their own ranks. The main actors Jamel Debbouze , Samy Naceri , Roschdy Zem , Sami Bouajila and Bernard Blancan were honored as best actors at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival . With the members of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinema eligible to vote in 1867, however, they had not been able to make an impression in advance and were not included in the actor categories. The French government had expressed concern about the film material and, in response, adjusted the pensions for the veterans depicted in the film to those for French soldiers. In the morning hours, actors and filmmakers embarked on a ten-hour flight to Los Angeles, where Days of Fame was nominated as Algeria's official contribution in the category of best foreign-language film , but was defeated by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's German production The Lives of Others .

The field of nominees in the Best Film category was completed by the tragic comedy Chanson d'Amour by Xavier Giannoli and Philippe Lioret's drama Don't worry, I'm fine (two awards). Not among the honored was the renowned French actor Gérard Depardieu , who received his fifteenth César nomination for his portrait of an aging bar singer in Chanson d'Amour . He last received the film award in 1991 for the title role in Bergerac's Cyrano . Depardieu's Belgian film partner Cécile de France received a nomination for best leading actress for both Giannolis Film and for the part of up-and-coming Parisian waitress Jessica in Danièle Thompson's tragicomedy A Perfect Place , but was defeated by Lady Chatterley actress Marina Hands. The honor of a double nomination in an acting category had previously been granted to supporting actress Thérèse Liotard once in 1991 , who, however, unlike De France in Yves Robert's films The Castle of My Mother and The Glory of My Father (both 1990) embodied the same character. The eight-time nominated drama Hearts , which is the 47th directorial work by the renowned and recognized filmmaker Alain Resnais , was also unsuccessful . The 84-year-old Frenchman had previously scored points with the César jury with the drama Providence (1977) and the comedies Smoking / No Smoking (1993) and Life is a Chanson (1998). The award for best foreign film went to the successful independent production Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris , which attracted a million French people to the cinemas. The comedy beat out the Oscar award winner Brokeback Mountain by Ang Lee and the 2007 Oscar-nominated films Babel by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu , Stephen Frears ' Elisabeth II. -Biography The Queen and Pedro Almodóvar's tragic comedy Volver - Returning through. For the first time, prizes were awarded for the best documentary film. Here Dans la peau de Jacques Chirac ( Eng .: "In the skin of Jacques Chirac") was the winner, who in the style of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) or Nanni Moretti's The Italian (2006) took a critical look at the former French President throws. The political film by Karl Zéro and Michel Royer triumphed, among other things, over the work Zidane, un portrait du XXIe siècle, which is dedicated to Zinédine Zidane .

The ceremony was broadcast live on the French pay TV channel Canal + and was broadcast in German-speaking countries by TV5MONDE Europe . As in the previous year, it was moderated by Valérie Lemercier, who received the César as best supporting actress for her acting performance in A Perfect Place . Actor Claude Brasseur was president of the awards ceremony . The British actor Jude Law ( En route to Cold Mountain ) and the French actress Marlène Jobert were awarded the honorary prize . This year's César Awards were dedicated to the actor Philippe Noiret . The two-time winner in the Best Actor category (1976 and 1990) died of cancer on November 23, 2006 in Paris. A new choreography of the rabbi dance from his film The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob (1973) commemorates the comedy director Gérard Oury , who died on July 20, 2006. Oury had worked with actors such as Louis de Funès , Pierre Richard and Jean-Paul Belmondo and had become one of the most popular filmmakers in France from the 1960s. At the César Awards in 1993, he was honored with the honorary award for his cinematic work .

Press reviews

“While the Oscar ceremony is an indication of global self-assurance, the 'Nuit des Césars' is a gesture of defiant self-assurance, a demonstration of the heartfelt and proud pact of the French audience with its stars and directing idols. The winners are not cut off rudely when they are as cleverly dissolute as the comedian Kad Merad (best supporting actor in 'Don't worry, I'm fine') looking for new names that they can thank. "

“It's a thankless task. You report prices - and you already know that the news is outshone far and wide at the moment these pages appear. Because what are the Césars compared to the great Oscars? "

“The ceremony at the Parisian Theater du Chatelet was a little livelier than the previous edition, mainly thanks to the hostess, actress Valerie Lemercier […] Inevitably, the ceremony also had its political moments. Pascale Ferran made an appeal for the poorly paid workers in the French entertainment industry, those who have fought for retirement reforms over the past three years. "
