The founder of the order, Blessed César de Bus

César de Bus (born February 3, 1544 in Cavaillon , † April 15, 1607 in Avignon ) was a Catholic priest and is a blessed of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

At the age of 18, César de Bus joined the royal army and took part in the Huguenot Wars . However, due to a serious illness, he was unable to take part in the siege of La Rochelle (1573) . He then led a secular life in Paris for three years before asking for admission to a monastery near Avignon, where he then devoted himself to nursing. In 1582 he received the sacrament of ordination and was soon appointed canon at the main church of Avignon.

In 1592 he founded the Congregation of Priests of Christian Doctrine, known as the Doctrinarier . César de Bus died on April 15, 1607 in Avignon, where he was also buried. His bones were transferred to the Church of Santa Maria in Monticelli in Rome in 1924 , as the doctrinarians no longer exist in France since the French Revolution . Pope Pius VII elevated him to Venerable Servant of God in 1821 , and Paul VI. beatified him on April 27, 1975. In the process of his canonization, on May 26, 2020 , Pope Francis recognized a miracle attributed to his intercession as the final requirement for canonization.
