The Côtes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire wine-growing region is located in the south of the Entre-Deux-Mers area , part of the Bordeaux wine-growing region . The appellation, which has enjoyed the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short) since July 31, 1937 , forms the south-eastern extension of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux wine-growing region . Vineyards are permitted in the ten municipalities of Saint-Macaire , Sainte-Foy-la-Longue , Saint-Pierre d'Aurillac , Pian-sur-Garonne , Saint-Laurent-du-Bois , Caudrot , Saint-André-du-Bois , Saint-Martin-de-Sescas , Saint-Laurent-du-Plan and Saint-Martial . Of the more than 2,600 hectares of vineyards, however, only 50 hectares are used in these communities on the right bank of the Garonne for the production of the sweet white wine. The remaining area is used for the production of dry white wine (approx. 600 ha) and dry red wine (approx. 2000 ha) under the names "Bordeaux" or "Bordeaux Supérieur".

The noble sweet white wines are blended from the grape varieties Sémillon (average share 55%), Sauvignon Blanc (share 33%) and Muscadelle . The must must have a sugar content of at least 196 g / l (see also the article must weight ), and the wine must have a minimum alcohol content of 11.5 percent by volume after fermentation . The harvest restriction is 42 hectoliters per hectare, and the planting density must not be less than 4500 vines per hectare.

The wine can be stored between 3 and 6 years and should be enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 8 to 10 ° C.

The three appellations Cadillac , Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont are within a radius of about ten kilometers .
