Cactus is an American blues rock band that formed in 1969 from the rhythm section of Vanilla Fudge . Cactus plays a heavy blues rock that already contained many patterns of hard rock .

Band history

Tim Bogert (bass) and Carmine Appice (drums) actually wanted to start a new project with Jeff Beck , but Beck had a serious car accident in 1970 and was not available. Therefore the two founded the band Cactus together with Jim McCarty (guitar) and Rusty Day (vocals, harmonica) . Werner Fritzschings (guitar), Tim Bogert (later Norbert Lange) (bass) Peter French (vocals) and Duane Hitchings (keyboards) were later members of the band after reshuffling.

In 1972 Bogert and Appice left Cactus to form the trio Beck, Bogert & Appice with the recovered Beck . With Roland Robinson (bass, vocals), Jerry Norris (drums, vocals) and Mike Pinera (guitar, vocals) the group only survived as the New Cactus Band for a short time and finally broke up in 1973.

Bogert & Appice are back today with Vanilla Fudge .

In 1982 Rusty Day worked on an album with Uncle Acid & The Permanent Damage Band. He also earned his living with drug trafficking, among other things. Rusty Day owed Ron Sanders, one of the guitarists in his band, money after a minor cocaine deal. Sanders was addicted to cocaine and unpredictable. On March 6, 1982, he opened fire with a submachine gun and shot and killed Rusty Day, his son Russell and Garth McRae, a guest of the house.

After a decade-long hiatus, the band reappeared in June 2006 at two shows in New York and at the Sweden Rock Festival in Norje. The cast again consisted of the original members Appice, Bogert and McCarty; Jimmy Kunes, who used to sing with Savoy Brown, joined the band as a singer . That same year, the group released a new album called Cactus V .
