Cala Major ( Catalan for main bay , in Spanish : cala mayor ) is the name of a suburb of Palma and the small bathing bay in the southwest of the Balearic island of Mallorca .
Suburb of Cala Major
The suburb of Cala Major is located in the southwestern part of the administrative district of the capital Palma. In 1981 the Catalan painter Joan Miró and his wife Pilar Juncosa founded the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca in their place of residence Cala Major . It includes his studios and numerous works. In 1992 the foundation received its new headquarters through the construction of a new museum, designed by the architect Rafael Moneo on the property of Son Boter, the studio, and Son Abrines, his home.
Cala Major beach
Cala Major beach is a 300 meter long sandy beach. It is bordered to the west by a small peninsula and to the east by the beach road Avinguda de Joan Miró (state road Ma1c ). To the north are large hotel complexes.
