Camaralet de Lasseube

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camaralet de Lasseube is an autochthonous white grape variety from the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in southwestern France. The extremely rare vine (a total of 0.26 hectares of planted vineyards were surveyed in 2000 ) is still grown in the appellations of Béarn and Jurançon . The berries have a balanced sugar / acid ratio and make fine, dry white wines that are ideal blending partners for the Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng varieties . Seven clones were selected as part of a maintenance breeding program.

A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Arrouya , Camaralet de Lasseube, Camaraou Blanc , Camaraou Noir and Penouille are genetically very closely related.

In 1998 the clones 1023 and 1024 were approved for the cultivation of quality wines.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The yellowish young leaves are lightly hairy
  • The leaves are five-lobed (see the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are small and closely set compared to other varieties.
  • The cone to cylindrical grape is small. The rounded berries are also small.

The vigorous grape variety tends to trickle down heavily due to its female flowers . As a result, the yields are low. Camaralet de Lasseube ripens approx. 20-25 days after the Gutedel grape variety and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the late second ripening period (see the chapter in the article Grape variety). This makes it one of the mid-late ripening varieties. Camaralet de Lasseube is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It only has female flowers and is therefore not self-fruiting. In viticulture, there is the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yields.

Synonyms

Camaralet de Lasseube is also known under the names Camaralet, Camaralet blanc, Camaralet à Fleurs Femelles, Camarau, Gentil aromatique, Moustardet and Petit Camarau.
