Capital is a business magazine founded in 1962 that is published monthly by Gruner + Jahr . The sold circulation is 111,014 copies, a decrease of 57.6 percent since 1998. The highest sales circulation was reached in the 1st quarter of 2000 with 293,213 copies. The fortnightly publication frequency, which has been in place since the stock market boom in 2000, was changed back to a monthly publication in April 2008.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Capital was considered the opinion-leading business magazine in Germany under Johannes Gross . "Representing the economic human and the human economic" was the motto of the magazine, a motto that can be traced back to the founder Adolf Theobald . André Kostolany's monthly column on the stock exchange enjoyed cult status for decades.

The editorial office of Capital was based in Cologne before the editorial offices of Capital, Financial Times Deutschland , Impulse and Börse Online were merged into one joint editorial office based in Hamburg on March 1, 2009 . After the Financial Times Deutschland was discontinued in December 2012, Impulse and Börse Online were sold and the editorial office moved from Capital to Berlin . A comprehensive relaunch of the magazine and the website took place in spring 2013 .

Studies

Once a year, Capital publishes a residential area assessment under the title “Capital Real Estate Compass”. In addition to the print edition, the “Capital Real Estate Compass” is also published online and is regularly updated there. The “Capital Fund Compass”, a ranking of the 100 most important fund providers in Germany, is also published annually. Another study is the “Art Market Compass”, which has been created since around 2012 together with the Artfacts art database. It is a competitor to the older art compass that was published in Capital until 2007.

Since 1987 the Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach (IfD) has been interviewing decision makers from business, politics and administration on current political and economic issues on behalf of Capital. The survey is published under the name "Elite Panel".

Conferences

At the annual Capital “Asset Development Summit”, economists, investment strategists, asset managers, entrepreneurs and politicians discuss topics from the fields of real estate and construction finance, investment products and insurance. In 2007, Capital launched the “Young Elite Summit” and organizes conferences for young decision-makers from German-speaking countries at regular intervals.
