Carl Abegg (entrepreneur)

Carl Abegg (born October 20, 1860 in Hottingen , † September 16, 1943 in Zurich ) was a Swiss textile manufacturer . He was the son of Carl Abegg-Arter and brother of August Abegg .

From 1877 to 1881 Carl Abegg was trained in the silk trade and silk production in northern Italy. After he stayed in New York in 1881/82, he went on a study trip to the Far East in 1883/1884. In 1885 Abegg founded his own international textile company for silk production and raw silk trade in Zurich. In 1894 he set up a silk twisting mill in Kolomna near Moscow and managed it until 1918. In the following year, 1919, his son Carl Julius Abegg took over the management of the business.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Stünzi silk weaving mills (1899–1935, Chairman: 1899–1908), the Swiss Reinsurance Company (1910–1935), the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (1911–1939), the Zurich Insurance Company (1912–1937) and Maggi AG (1913–1941, President: 1916–1938).
