Carlo Collodi , actually Carlo Lorenzini (born November 24, 1826 in Florence , † October 26, 1890 ibid) was an Italian writer and journalist . He is the author of the world famous novel The Adventures of Pinocchio .

His last name pseudonym is derived from the village of Collodi . His mother, Angela Orzali, was born there, between Lucca and Pistoia . Collodi himself also spent a large part of his childhood there. In addition to his work as a writer , he also worked as a journalist and prefecture employee. He was involved in the independence movement in Italy and remained unmarried.

The great success of his novel The Adventures of Pinocchio did not materialize until after his death. The first story about Pinocchio appeared on July 7, 1881 in the new children's magazine Giornale per i bambini in Rome. It was not until the 20th century that the literary value of the work was fully recognized by the professional public. Due to its widespread use, his work also had a decisive influence on the development of the Italian language.

Carlo Collodi died at the age of 63. He was buried in his hometown on the Cimitero delle Porte Sante .
