Carlo Mauri

Carlo Mauri (born March 25, 1930 in Lecco , Italy ; † May 31, 1982 ibid) was an Italian mountaineer , adventurer and documentary filmmaker .

Life

Carlo Mauri grew up in Lecco in Lombardy and started climbing in the Alps at an early age; In 1953, together with Walter Bonatti , he succeeded in the first winter ascent of the Cassin Route on the Western Zinne. Some important first ascents followed later (e.g. Gasherbrum IV) and numerous other expeditions, including with Thor Heyerdahl .

• Westliche Zinne , 1953 first winter ascent of the Cassin route with Walter Bonatti
• Monte Sarmiento (Tierra del Fuego, Chile), first ascent 1956 together with Clemente Maffei
• Gasherbrum IV (Karakorum, Pakistan), 1958 expedition led by Riccardo Cassin , Carlo Mauri and Walter Bonatti complete the first ascent.
• Mont Blanc , 1959 east face ( Via della Poire ) first solo ascent
• Mount Everest , 1971 participant in an international expedition led by Norman Dyhrenfurth
