Carlo Mauri

Carlo Mauri (born March 25, 1930 in Lecco , Italy ; † May 31, 1982 ibid) was an Italian mountaineer , adventurer and documentary filmmaker .

Life

Carlo Mauri grew up in Lecco in Lombardy and started climbing in the Alps at an early age; In 1953, together with Walter Bonatti , he succeeded in the first winter ascent of the Cassin Route on the Western Zinne. Some important first ascents followed later (e.g. Gasherbrum IV) and numerous other expeditions, including with Thor Heyerdahl .
