Carlo Cardinal Salotti (born July 25, 1870 in Grotte di Castro , Province of Viterbo , Italy , † October 24, 1947 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Carlo Salotti received in Orvieto his Rome and theological and philosophical training and received on 22 September 1894, the sacrament of Holy Orders . After further studies, he worked as a pastor in the Diocese of Rome from 1897 to 1912 , and from 1902 he also worked as a university lecturer . In 1915 he received the title of papal house prelate and became assessor of the Congregation for Rites .

Pope Pius XI appointed Carlo Salotti on June 30, 1930 Titular Archbishop of Philippopolis in Thracia and three days later Secretary of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith and Rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum "De Propaganda Fide" , where he founded the Institute for Mission Studies . The episcopal ordination donated him Wilhelmus Marinus Cardinal van Rossum CSsR on July 6th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Luigi Olivarès SDB , Bishop of Nepi e Sutri , and Giovanni Rosi , Bishop of Montefiascone .

In the consistory of March 13, 1933 Pope Pius XI raised him. to cardinal in pectore , on December 16, 1935 he proclaimed the cardinal elevation of Salotti and at the same time appointed him cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola . On September 14, 1938, Salotti was promoted to Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Rites and on December 11, 1939, Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina was raised.

He died on October 24, 1947 at the age of 77 in Rome and was buried in his birthplace.
