Carmen Schimanek (born Gartelgruber, born June 25, 1965 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and accountant . Schimanek was a member of the Austrian National Council from 2008 to 2019 .

education and profession

Schimanek attended elementary school for four years and secondary school for four years before completing a three-year training course at a commercial school. Schimanek also attended an evening trade academy for four years. Schimanek subsequently also passed the accountant and controller exams. She implemented her training as an accountant in the family business.

politics

Schimanek claims to have started her political career out of a desire to actively participate in community politics. She has been a member of the youth and school committee in the municipality of Wörgl since 2004 . Between 2005 and 2007 she was also the FPÖ district finance officer in Kufstein . In 2006 she was elected regional chairwoman of the Freedom Women's Initiative (IFF) of Tyrol and in 2007 she was elected FPÖ city party chairwoman in Wörgl. Since 2007 she has also held the position of finance officer for the FPÖ-Tirol and is a member of the economic committee.

In 2008 she was elected Deputy Federal Chairwoman of the Freedom Women Austria Initiative and successfully ran for the FPÖ in the 2008 National Council election . Schimanek was sworn in on October 28, 2008 as a member of the FPÖ for the constituency of Tyrol. In the FPÖ parliamentary club , Schimanek took on the role of area spokesperson for women. In the National Council she was a member of the committees for family, audit office, environment, ombudsman and equal treatment. From September 2011 Carmen Schimanek is federal chairwoman of the initiative Freedom Women Austria and member of the federal party executive.

Since 2009, Carmen Schimanek has also been chairwoman of the Freedom Family Association in Tyrol. In the municipal council elections in 2010, she was able to achieve a significant increase in votes in her home town of Wörgl: Her list received 19% of the votes and four seats (previously two).

After the National Council election in 2019 , she left the National Council.
