Caroline Abbé (born January 13, 1988 in Geneva ) is a Swiss football player .

Career

Abbé began playing football at the age of eight in Meyrin at the local football club in the canton of Geneva and after seven years switched to CS Chênois , where she stayed for three seasons. This was followed by a season at Association Yverdon-Sport and four seasons at the first division club FC Yverdon Féminin , with whom she twice won the Swiss Women's Football Cup. In 2010 she was voted Swiss Footballer of the Year .

For the 2011/12 season she signed a contract with the newly promoted Bundesliga club SC Freiburg , whose captain she was from the 2012/13 season . In the Bundesliga she made her debut on August 28, 2011 (2nd matchday) in a 3-1 win at home against Bayern Munich. She scored her first Bundesliga goal the following season, on February 9, 2013 (matchday 12) in a 1-1 draw in the away game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen with the opening goal in the 47th minute.

For the 2014/15 season she signed a contract with league rivals FC Bayern Munich, for which she made her debut on August 31, 2014 (1st matchday) in a 1-1 draw in the home game against 1. FFC Frankfurt and on September 21, 2014 ( 3rd matchday) with the opening goal in the 22nd minute in the 3-0 win in the home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim scored the first Bundesliga goal. In 2015 and 2016 she won the German championship with the Munich women . At the end of the 2016/17 season she was adopted by Bayern Munich after three seasons. She signed with FC Zurich Women on June 22, 2017 .

National team

In 2005 and 2006 Abbé was used for the U-19 national team and took part in both the European Championships in 2005 and 2006 , where she scored one goal each. She made her debut for the "Nati" on February 25, 2006 in Bellinzona in the 3-2 defeat by Denmark . She scored her first international goal on August 12, 2009 in Wohlen in a 3-0 win in the international test match against Sweden, with the goal to make it 1-0 in the second minute. On March 4, 2015, she became the first Swiss woman to make her 100th international match at the 2015 Algarve Cup . Martina Moser came on as a substitute for the second half, making her 100th international match.

Abbé took part in the 2015 World Cup in Canada - the Swiss women’s first participation in a major football tournament. It was used in the first two group matches and the round of 16, where the Swiss were eliminated by a 0-1 against hosts Canada.

In March 2016, the Swiss women could not qualify in the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games , but in June Switzerland was at least one of the best runners-up in the group and it was clear that Switzerland would take part in the finals for the first time, on June 7, 2016, before the last two games of the Group win.

In 2017 she took part in the European Championship finals in the Netherlands. Following this tournament, she announced her resignation from the national team.
