Casino Oceano

The Casino Oceano is a building in the Portuguese coastal town of Figueira da Foz .

It was built in 1898 and offered a casino , a concert café and a restaurant on its premises , according to the taste of the Belle Époque . However, over the years it lost its importance.

It is a single-storey building surrounded by Portuguese pavement in the pedestrianized upper town of Figueira da Foz. After extensive renovations on the inside and restoration work on the outside in 1996, it now serves as a discotheque. a. served as an exhibition space for handicrafts . It is regarded as an exemplary striking building from the time when Figueira rose to become a glamorous seaside resort. It has been a listed building since 2003. Occasionally it is confused with Casino Peninsular , Casino Figueira , which is right next door on the opposite corner of the intersection.

In 1983, Casino Oceano gave its name and, in short sequences, was the backdrop for the feature film by director Lauro António . The film, produced by RTP for its Histórias de Mulheres (German: Women's Stories) series, premiered at the Figueira da Foz International Film Festival in 1983 in the neighboring Casino Figueira.
