Caught in the Act (CITA) is an English - Dutch boy band that was founded by Cees van Leeuwen in 1992 and existed until 1998. Her breakthrough came in 1994 after guest appearances in the German soap opera Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . By the time it was dissolved, the band had sold more than 20 million records worldwide and was featured 23 times on the cover of the youth magazine Bravo from 1995 to 1997 . In December 2015, three band members started a comeback.

history

1992–1995: Foundation and first debut album Caught in the Act of Love

Lee Baxter and Benjamin Boyce are English, Eloy de Jong and Bastiaan Ragas are Dutch. The four band members won against 750 applicants in 1992. Then it was decided to keep it secret that the band was formed through a casting. According to the official version, the band was founded by school friends Benjamin Boyce, Eloy de Jong and Bastiaan Ragas, who happened to meet again in Amsterdam and decided to form a boy band together. Later they brought Lee Baxter, with whom Boyce is said to have attended drama school. The name of the band, which means "caught red handed" in German, can be traced back to a newspaper headline that titled a picture of Madonna with her lover at the time.

The first single Gonna Make You Mine was released in late 1992 and Hey You followed in the spring of 1993 . But it was only with the third single Take Me To The Limit , which appeared in April 1994, that Caught in the Act was able to achieve its first chart success in Holland.

The breakthrough in the German speaking equalized after guest appearances in November 1994 in RTL - soap opera Gute Zeiten , where she participated in ten episodes and their single Love Is Everywhere presented. Then the single was able to place itself at number 10 in the German single charts and was awarded a gold record for 250,000 units sold after six months. In the late summer of 1995 the debut album Caught in the Act of Love followed , which was recorded in the West Side Studios in London in collaboration with producer Steve Mac and in November 1995 also achieved gold status. The second single was the Rick Astley cover My Arms Keep Missing You and then the ballads Let This Love Begin and You Know .

In December 1995 they were accompanied by Just Friends and the Backstreet Boys on their Christmas tour .

1996: Second album Forever Friends and international success

As a harbinger of the second album, the single Don't Walk Away appeared after a five-month release break , which reached 9th place in 1996 and was also awarded a gold record. The album Forever Friends was able to place itself successfully at number 2 in the German album charts and also achieved gold status. In Austria, too, the album was able to place in the top 10 of the album charts with number 7 and in Switzerland with number 9. In March 1996 Caught in the Act released Love Is Everywhere in Japan and completed an advertising campaign there in April 1996 before starting their Forever Friends tour in Germany . In addition, the band completed advertising campaigns in Australia and South Africa in 1996.

1997–1998: Third album Vibe and surprising band breakup

The third album Vibe was released in August 1997 and placed at number 4 in the German album charts. Do It For Love and the Styx Cover Babe were released as singles .

At the Bravo Super Show in 1998, Caught in the Act presented their new song Baby Come Back . In July 1998 the single Hold On was released . Shortly afterwards, on August 1, 1998, management announced the end of the band. The decision to end the line was made by management, as Benjamin Boyce decided to get out. Boyce was no longer happy in the band as he wanted to write his own songs and was forced by management to keep his relationship with Viva host Aleksandra Bechtel a secret. At the same time there was an offer to go through in America and the management considered the possibility, since the US record company insisted on four band members, to bring a new fourth, young man on board. Although the other three members wanted to continue, there was no question of replacing Boyce after six years. Due to the dispute, the management decided to break up the band. The band members only found out about the breakup with the band.

Caught in the Act separated on August 16, 1998 after a farewell concert in Magdeburg. The best of album We Belong Together: 6 Years of Success was released on August 24, 1998 . On November 23, 1998, the album Solo 4 CITA followed , which, in addition to the final CITA single I Wanna Stay with You Forever , consists of three solo songs by the four band members.

At the turn of the year 2015/16, Caught in the Act appeared on the ZDF program Willkommen am Brandenburger Tor. The performance marked the beginning of a reunion, which took place without Boyce, who decided against a comeback with Caught in the Act in favor of his solo career. On December 29, 2015, the single Love Is Everywhere 2016 was released . On November 18, 2016, the new song Back for Love was released . The album of the same name followed on November 25, 2016 and includes new editions of the old hits as well as two new songs and a cover version of Last Christmas .
