Caux is a in the canton of Vaud 1054  m above sea level. M. located health resort . He belongs to the political municipality of Montreux . Caux is often mentioned in connection with the mountain and excursion destination Rochers de Naye .

Location

Caux is located in an area close to the French border and is also known as the “balcony of Lake Geneva ”. The French and Swiss Alps can also be overlooked from here. The place is well protected from the strong north wind and street noise, and sports can be enjoyed in both summer and winter.

history

Until well into the 19th century, Caux consisted of only a few alpine huts for the shepherds who kept the cattle of the farmers of Montreux on the alpine pastures . As more and more hikers from Montreux and Glion climbed to the heights of Caux in the second half of the 19th century , the first alpine hut was converted into a hostel in 1875 . In 1892 the Glion − Caux cog railway was completed.

In the Belle Epoque , Caux became famous for the Grand Hôtel de Caux and the Hotel Caux Palace . In 1946 the Hotel Caux Palace came into the possession of the Moral Armament (since 2001 Initiatives of Change ). This movement established its international conference center in the former Hotel Caux Palace . The former Grand Hôtel de Caux has been a conference center for the Rosicrucian community Lectorium Rosicrucianum since 1978 .

The prominent guests in Caux included Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary (“Sisi”), Konrad Adenauer , Robert Schuman , Michael I of Romania, the Dalai Lama and Kofi Annan . The Swiss cultural manager Claude Nobs lived in his chalet in Caux.
