Cecil Rawling
Cecil Godfrey Rawling CMG , CIE , DSO ( February 16, 1870 - October 28, 1917 near Passendale ), was a British soldier with the rank of brigadier and explorer.
In 1903/04 he took part in the invasion of Tibet by British troops under the direction of Francis Younghusband and, together with CHD Ryder, led the Gartok expedition immediately initiated by Younghusband .
During an expedition to northwest Guinea (now Papua ) in 1909, he discovered the Tapiro , a hitherto unknown tribe of small people. He was also the first to plan to explore and climb Mount Everest .
Rawling was killed in the Third Battle of Flanders near Passendale in World War I.
