The designation CEC or CEEC ( Central and Eastern European Countries , in German Central and Eastern European countries ) is currently used by Eurostat for the following countries of the CEE region that are seeking membership in the European Union :

• Albania
• Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Kosovo
• North Macedonia
• Montenegro
• Serbia
• Turkey

Before joining the European Union on May 1, 2004, the following countries also belonged to this category:

• Estonia
• Latvia
• Lithuania
• Poland
• Hungary
• Czech Republic
• Slovakia
• Slovenia

Before joining the European Union on January 1, 2007, the following countries also belonged to this category:

• Romania
• Bulgaria

Before joining the European Union on July 1, 2013, the following country also belonged to this category:

• Croatia
