Centro Atlético Fénix (nicknames: Albivioletas , Los de Capurro , el Ave ) is a Uruguayan football club .

The association is based in the Montevidean district of Capurro . The club colors are purple and white. The club plays its home games in the Estadio Parque Capurro , a stadium with almost 10,000 seats.

history

In 1909, Guaraní, the first football club in the district, was founded - but it was dissolved again in 1913. On July 7, 1916, a football club was launched again in Capurro. In a figurative sense, this sport rose from the ashes in Capurro and so the new club was named after the mythical bird Centro Atlético Fénix . In 1917, the club's soccer team started in league operations for the first time. In the following year, Fénix rose unbeaten in the fourth highest league, the Intermedia , where the club stayed until 1922. In that year, the runner-up was achieved and aided by the split in the association structures that took place in Uruguayan football at that time, he was immediately promoted to the Primera División of the AUF .

The club won a total of seven times - 1956, 1959, 1973, 1977, 1985, 2007 and 2009 - the championship in Uruguay's second-highest division, the Segunda División . This means that Fénix, together with city rivals Sud América , who also secured the title seven times, is the record holder in this regard . In addition, the Fénix took part in the South American club championship, the Copa Libertadores , in 2003 and 2004 , but was eliminated from the group stage. With a 6-1 home win against Mexico's CD Cruz Azul and a home draw against eventual tournament winner Once Caldas , Fénix was still able to set some memorable brands. At that time, Fénix was able to provide the Uruguayan league shooter for the only time so far with Germán Hornos , who scored an impressive 25 goals in 2002.

In the 2012/13 season they finished 7th in the table. Since the results of previous seasons are also used to determine relegated football in Uruguayan football, Fénix narrowly avoided going into the second division as in the previous year by occupying 13th place in the relegation table. After the Apertura 2013, Fénix ranked 13th. In the Clausura 2014 you finished sixth. With this, the club finished 7th in the overall annual table for the 2013/14 season . The 2014/15 season ended in 10th place in the overall annual table. At the end of the 2015/16 season, the team improved to a 6th place in the table.
