Chansonnier

A chansonnier ("song book", from French chanson "song") is a collective manuscript of Provencal trobador poetry according to the Spanish Cancionero , the Italian Canzoniere and the German song manuscript . Since the 17th century, chansonnier has also been the name of the songwriters of the 12th to 14th centuries (French trouvères and Provencal trobadors ) in contrast to the authors of epic poems.

As a name for the singers of modern French chansons , chansonnier is only used in German, the French name is chanteur . The chansonnier in French is specifically the cabaret singer or the author of political-satirical texts.
