Chants of Maldoror was an Italian gothic / death rock band formed in 1994.

The name of the band is derived from a prose poem by the French author Comte de Lautréamont , Les Chants de Maldoror , which is considered a masterpiece of the unreal and decadent surrealism .

history

Chants of Maldoror was founded on December 22nd, 1994 by Adolphe ( vocals ) and David ( bass ).

Their first official release in 1997 was the demo tape Ritual Death , which was recorded in May / June 1996. In the same year the band played various concerts in Rome and at the "Ascension-of-the-Gods" festival in Bassiano , Italy .

In 1998 it became quiet for the band and they only played one concert in Rome that year.

In March 1999 the band played another concert in Rome and recorded their debut album from July to November. In June 2000 the first album Thy Hurting Heaven was released on Radio Luxor / SPV.

Work did not continue until March-August 2002, and the band played concerts in Rome, Reggio nell'Emilia and Milan that year . Many festivals soon followed, including the 11th Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig , the Rozz Williams Tribute Festival as headliner on the “Herbstnächten ” in Rabenstein, as well as on “Darknation Day” in Vienna and at the legendary “Gotham” Festival ”in Amsterdam's Paradiso.

On September 4, 2005, the band released their second album entitled Every Mask Tells the Truth on Strobelight Records. In the following period, however, the activities were discontinued.

In 2011 David and Loren founded the follow-up project Sorry Heels together with Simona Pietrucci, which stylistically refers to the roots of postpunk and indie rock of the 90s and has since released an album and two EPs.
