Chaos Radio is a monthly live talk - radio broadcast of the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) in Berlin on changing topics related to technology and society.

Chaosradio broadcast one issue per month but was suspended every December due to the Chaos Communication Congress . Since November 1995 the program was part of the talk radio show Blue Moon - it was one of the oldest tech radios ever. Due to changing broadcasting slots on Radio Fritz, the exact date changed from the last Wednesday to the last Thursday and finally the last Monday of the month. The program was last broadcast on Radio Fritz on January 28, 2019 due to program changes and has been produced by the Chaos Computer Club ever since.

content

The topics of the program are of a technical nature (for example The Semantic Web ) or of a socio-political nature (for example video surveillance ) or related to current developments that were the basis of a public discussion. Both the moderators and the content changed. In addition to the varied team provided by the CCC, first Johnny Haeusler and later Max von Malotki , Holger Klein and Jakob Kranz moderated the program. Marcus Richter is currently moderating .

The program content is often technically demanding, but the moderator and his studio guests tried to convey complex content in the most understandable way possible in order to introduce the listeners to the technology that is increasingly influencing and shaping them today. Chaosradio tried to convey media literacy . Tim Pritlove from CCC puts it this way: “Chaos radio is always a bit of a view from behind; the attempt to take up topics that are not usually on the radio or otherwise in the media. "

Chaosradio on Fritz was like every other Blue Moon also a talk show. The listeners were able to join the discussion and ask questions on the topic.

Until issue 196, the song numbers from Kraftwerk were played as the title melody .

Dissemination and reception

The broadcast is available on the Internet via live stream and later as a podcast . It used to be receivable on all Fritz frequencies .

Since mid-2014, the format has only been produced in uneven months as part of the “Blue Moon” on Radio Fritz of the RBB and otherwise by the CCC in front of an audience in Berlin and broadcast itself via live stream. All episodes have been produced independently since the end of 2019.

There are now also offshoots, such as Radio Darmstadt and the Ulm radio station freeFM offer space for such programs.

More podcasts

Several podcasts were offered via the Chaosradio Podcast Network . In addition to Chaosradio , these are Chaosradio Express International , Chaos TV , Dossier Chaotique , Die Datenschleuder and 25C3 Video Recordings . From November 2005 to December 2011, the CRE podcast was also offered under the name “Chaosradio Express” on the Chaosradio Podcast Network, but was then transferred to a separate page in order to take account of the differences to Chaosradio.
