Chariton Prokofjewitsch Laptev ( Russian Харитон Прокофьевич Лаптев ; * 1700 near Velikije Luki ; † December 21, 1763 ibid) was a Russian naval officer and polar explorer.

In 1718 Laptew joined the Russian Navy as a cadet . In 1733 he took part in the Second Kamchatka Expedition. Laptev was a member of the northern group under Vasily Prontschishchev and led them after Prontschishchev's death in 1736. Together with Semjon Tscheljuskin , he described the Taimyr peninsula from the mouth of the Chatanga to the mouth of the Pyassina . Laptev also discovered some islands. After the expedition, Laptev returned to the Navy and served in the Baltic Fleet .

Part of the coast of the Taimyr Peninsula, a cape on the Chelyuskin Peninsula and the Laptev Sea are named after Laptev . The latter is also reminiscent of his cousin Dmitri Laptev , also a polar explorer.
