Charles Whittenberg
Charles Whittenberg (born July 26, 1927 in St. Louis , † August 22, 1984 in Hartford / Connecticut ) was an American composer and music teacher.
Whittenberg studied at the Eastman School of Music until 1948 . He then taught at Bennington College , the Center of Liberal Studies in Washington, and the University of Connecticut . From 1962 he worked at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center . As a composer he was a representative of serial technology in succession to Anton Webern . Works for solo instruments and chamber music ensembles, especially for wind instruments, became known. He was also active in the field of electronic music.
