Chaudière-Appalaches is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the southeast of the Canadian province of Québec .
It is further divided into nine regional county municipalities ( French municipalités régionales de comté ) and 136 municipalities. The administrative seat is in Montmagny .
The population is 406,401 (2011), the land area 15,070.9 km², which corresponds to a population density of 27.0 inhabitants per km². 99.8% of the population speak French and 0.1% English as their main language.
To the east, Chaudière-Appalaches borders the US state of Maine , to the south to the Estrie region , to the west to Center-du-Québec , to the northwest to Capitale-Nationale , to the northeast to Bas-Saint-Laurent .
