The Chemnitzer Linux-Tage ( CLT ) is a large event on the subject of Linux and free software in Germany. It takes place in the central lecture hall and seminar building of the Technical University of Chemnitz , where, among other things, lectures, project stands, workshops, an install party and a technology corner ( Dr. Tux's practice ) etc. are offered.

history

In 1999, the Chemnitz Linux Day took place for the first time - a one-day event with lectures and an installation party that was attended by 700 visitors. Since 2000, the Chemnitz Linux Days have established themselves as an annual two-day event on a weekend in March.

The event is mainly organized by (former) students and employees of the TU Chemnitz . Furthermore, the Chemnitz Linux User Group of IN Chemnitz eV, to whose members the initiative for the first implementation of the CLT goes back, the Faculty of Computer Science and the computer center of the TU Chemnitz are involved in the organization.

The relatively loose organizational structure is typical of a community event. All tasks change regularly and are constantly being taken over by new people. In the core team, six to eight people take care of all basic matters throughout the year with varying intensity. Between September and March, this team grows into an organizational team of around 30 people, who take care of tasks of different sizes. Around 450 to 500 people are involved in the CLT itself. In addition to the obviously presentation-related tasks (lectures, projects, etc.), a lot of helpers are also used for infrastructure tasks such as logistics, catering, information stands, children's play areas or steward services.

The Chemnitz Linux Days offer a varied program for all visitor groups. In addition to an extensive program of lectures for laypeople, users and experts, you can intensively expand your knowledge in numerous workshops, discuss with experts in a wide variety of fields in the exhibition area and of course bring your own computer to install Linux or solve problems in the system under guidance.

The audience at the Chemnitz Linux Days is a colorful mix: Schoolchildren and students are represented as well as home PC users and company employees interested in Linux. In order to do justice to the interests of the visitors - from Linux newcomers to open source experts, everything is included - the event program is correspondingly diverse.

The lectures have been broadcast live from the lecture rooms via audio since 2005 and also via video stream since 2009. The Chemnitz Linux Days are supported by Radio UNiCC and the Professorship of Media Informatics.

With some program items specially tailored to children and adolescents, the younger generation should also encourage curiosity and enjoyment of their own creative activities.

On March 9, 2020, the Chemnitz Linux Days 2020 were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . A later point in time is being considered.
