When their mothers have to go to work during the Second World War , three children get on the wrong track and become delinquent due to neglect. In some cities this problem is already being actively addressed. The film shows day care centers in which children can stay during their mothers' working hours, as well as the work of so-called leisure agencies ("Recreation Agencies").

Children of Mars was one of numerous films of the time that dealt with the (new) problem of juvenile delinquency (others, for example, Where Are Your Children?, 1943; Youth in Crisis , 1943; Youth Runs Wild , 1944). The film was released as part of the This is America series . It received a copyright entry on October 22, 1943.

Awards

Children of Mars was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film in 1944 , but couldn't prevail against December 7th .
