The film describes the effects of the earthquake on May 12, 2008, which struck the Chinese province of Sichuan, in which more than 70,000 people died and around 5.8 million people were left homeless. Particular attention is paid to the poor construction quality of the houses, especially the schools (more than 10,000 children perished in the quake). The misery of those affected is also shown, as well as the powerlessness and helplessness of the authorities in helping and explaining the construction defects.
Awards
In 2010 the film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
There was another nomination for the Emmy for Peter Hsu and Branka Mrkic ( Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Single or Multi-Camera) )
