The Chindwin is an orographically right tributary of the Irawadi in Myanmar (Burma) and has a length of approx. 840 kilometers.

River course

The Chindwin is the westernmost tributary of the Irrawaddy and is in turn fed by several headwaters, including the Tanai , the Tawan and the Taron . They originate in northern Myanmar, in the border area with India , in the Patkai Mountains and in the Kumon Range . The Chindwin first takes a north-westerly course through the Hukawng valley and then turns south. It flows into the Irrawaddy , the largest river in Myanmar, near the city of Myingyan .

From the city of Homalin around 650 kilometers are navigable by ship. During the summer monsoon it is even several kilometers more.
