Choi Min-sik (born May 30, 1962 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actor .
Life
Choi Min-sik began his acting career in the theater before entering the film business in 1992. In the 1990s he continued his work in theater productions as well as in various television series ( Seoul ui dal and Moon Over Seoul with Han Seok-gyu in 1994). He returned to the cinema in 1997 and had his biggest role in 1999 in one of the most successful Korean films of all time: Shiri . His portrayal of a North Korean agent earned him a lot of praise and an award for Best Actor at the 1999 South Korean Grand Bell Awards .
After he shone in a Hamlet theater production in the fall of 1999 , he played the leading role in Im Kwon-taeks In the intoxication of colors and love as the famous Korean painter Jang Seung-eop . The film won the Best Director award at the Cannes International Film Festival . In 2003 he played a man in Park Chan-wook's revenge thriller Oldboy who is kidnapped and held captive for 15 years without knowing the reason. This film won the Grand Prix in Cannes. Choi's passionate but cool performance made him world famous and a superstar in South Korea. In 2004 he was seen in the hit war film Brotherhood by Kang Je-gyu . In 2005, Choi appeared again for Park Chan-wook in Lady Vengeance . In 2010, he played the psychopathic women killer Kyung-chul in the controversial I Saw the Devil by Kim Jee-woon . In 2012 he took on the role as a gangster in the thriller Nameless Gangster (Bumchoiwaui junjaeng), which Choi presented at the 11th annual New York Asian Film Festival . In 2013 he played a policeman in the film New World who attacks the corrupt and mafia-like machinations in a Korean company and smuggles undercover policemen.
