Christopher "Chris" Borland (* 26. December 1990 in Kettering , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . He played one season for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). After the successful season he ended his career because he no longer wanted to expose himself to the risk of traumatic brain injuries and their consequences.

Chris Borland was born in Kettering, Ohio on December 26, 1990, one of eight children of Jeff and Zebbie Borland. He attended the "Archbishop Alter High School" in Kettering, where he was team captain and was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP). In his senior year in defense , he scored 72 tackles , one interception , forced a fumble, and captured two. In addition , he ran 1,230 yards in the offense and scored 19 touchdowns .

college

Borland played college football for the University of Wisconsin , where he was used in 55 games in five years. He scored 420 tackles, 17 sacks, 3 interceptions, forced 15 fumbles, and captured 8. His 15 forced fumbles set a new record for the Big Ten Conference .

NFL

Christ Borland was selected as the 77th player in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers . Borland made his first appearance in the 7th week of the regular season . In the game against the Denver Broncos he made eight tackles, as well as his first and only sack in the NFL - against the quarterback of the Broncos, Peyton Manning . Over the next six weeks, Borland scored five times more than ten tackles per game.

For his achievements in November he became the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month (defender of the month rookies selected). After the 14th game of the 49ers, Borland was put on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury and ended his season with 108 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. He was only used in ten games, in eight of which he played as a starter from the start .

On March 16, 2015, Borland announced that he was retiring from the NFL. The reason he gave was that he did not want to expose himself to the risk of traumatic brain injuries and their consequences, such as dementia pugilistica . He left the league just a week after the also surprising end of the career of Patrick Willis , who was to replace Borland in the 49ers.
