Christel Schulze

Christel Schulze (born December 25, 1936 ) is a German singer who was successful in the GDR .

Life

Christel Schulze was already on stage at the age of nine and received singing lessons at the age of 14. She planned to sing operas as a soprano. At the same time she played the guitar and became familiar with folk music and hits . In 1956 she won first place in the program “Die kleine Premiere” on the Berliner Rundfunk with When a Gypsy is crying. She studied singing , piano , guitar, recorder and accordion and recorded around 450 tracks by 1984.

In 1960 her hit Baciare was released as a single on the Amiga record label . Other hits like midi midinette, hello, sir, bimbo, take the guitar and sing and In Mexico, that's how it followed. In 1963 she began to interpret folk songs and went on tour with them at home and abroad. She was one of the first singers in the hootenanny movement in the GDR and recorded the single Herbstlied / Liebeslied in 1966 with Klaus Schneider . With him she often appeared as a duo, where he mostly played the guitar.

Christel Schulze could sing in numerous languages. In 1966 she won first prize at the International Song Festival “Song of Friendship” in Moscow for her interpretation of Khrennikov's Moscow Window . One of her songs was then released on Soviet records. In the same year she took part in the Festival Song of Friendship in Budapest and in the International Jazz Festival in Prague . Schulze turned to chanson , jazz and musicals . In 1971 she became a lecturer in singing at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in East Berlin . In the same year she received the first prize for the best interpretation of a soldier's song . In 1977 the singer took part in the GDR chanson days in Frankfurt (Oder) and won the “ VEB Deutsche Schallplatten ” award . Several of her songs have been used as film music in DEFA films . In 1984 her mother became seriously ill. Schulze withdrew from the music business and looked after her mother until her death in 1991. From then on she ran a small pension and gave singing and instrumental lessons.

In 2006 Schulze celebrated her 60th stage anniversary with friends from her time as a professional musician. She lives in Teltow .
