Christian Boros (born December 4, 1964 in Zabrze , Poland ) is a German media entrepreneur and art collector .

Life

Boros grew up in Cologne, studied communication design with Bazon Brock at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal from 1984 to 1990 and founded the Boros Agency for Communication in 1990 .

2010 founded Boros together with Uta Grosenick the distance Publishing . Since 2016 he has been a member of the advisory board of the Grimme Institute and a member of the board of trustees of Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen , where he has been teaching since 2012. He has been a member of the Fondation Beyeler's Patronage Committee since 2013 and of Art Basel's Global Patrons Council since 2016 .

Boros began collecting art at the age of 18. In 1990 he discovered the photographer Wolfgang Tillmans in London and acquired various works from him. In addition to works by Tillmans and Tobias Rehberger , he collects the Young British Artists Damien Hirst , Tracey Emin , Sarah Lucas as well as German artists such as Thomas Scheibitz , Anselm Reyle , Jonathan Meese , the American Elizabeth Peyton , the Swiss Daniel Pflumm and the Luxembourgish Michel Majerus , the Spaniard Santiago Sierra and the Danes Ólafur Elíasson and Henrik Olesen . The Boros Collection comprises around 700 paintings, sculptures and installations, including many works of contemporary art .

In order to accommodate his constantly growing collection, Boros bought the former Reichsbahnbunker Friedrichstrasse on Reinhardtstrasse in Berlin-Mitte in 2003 and founded a private museum there together with his wife Karen Boros . Since June 7, 2008, the collection has been accessible during guided tours that are subject to a fee, by appointment.
