Christian E. Loeben (born December 22, 1961 ) is a German Egyptologist .

Loeben studied Egyptology and art history at the Free University of Berlin from 1980 to 1985 . He then worked as a scientific tour guide . From 1992 to 2003 he worked as a lecturer in Egyptology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , the last two semesters as a substitute for the vacant professorship in Egyptology. Here he also received his doctorate in 1999 with a dissertation on the subject of observations on the context and function of royal statues in the Amun temple of Karnak . Since 2004 he has been the head of the Egyptological collection at the Museum August Kestner and a lecturer at the University of Göttingen . Loeben is particularly involved in the popular communication of Egyptology, appears frequently in the mass media as a specialist in Egyptological questions, develops a rich publication activity and gives many lectures.
