Christian Fittipaldi (born January 18, 1971 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian racing driver.

Career

He is the son of Formula 1 racing driver and team owner Wilson Fittipaldi and the nephew of two-time Formula 1 world champion and winner of the Indianapolis 500 , Emerson Fittipaldi .

Christian Fittipaldi was registered in 43 Formula 1 races from 1992 to 1994 and was able to qualify for 40 starts. He started for the Formula 1 teams Minardi and Arrows and achieved a total of 12 championship points. His best placings were a fourth place in the 1993 Grand Prix of South Africa for Minardi and two fourth places for Arrows in the 1994 season : the Grand Prix of the Pacific and the Grand Prix of Germany .

In 1995 Fittipaldi moved to Walker Racing in the IndyCar World Series and was able to take a second place at the season highlight, the Indianapolis 500 . From 1996 to 2002 he drove for Newman / Haas Racing and celebrated his first Champ Car victory in 1999 at Road America . From 2001 to 2003 he took part in races of the NASCAR Sprint Cup and the NASCAR Nationwide Series .

In 2005, 2006 and 2010 Fittipaldi drove in the Brazilian Stock Car Brasil series. From 2006 to 2008 he took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT1 class, where he achieved his best result in seventh class in 2006. At the same time, he also got into American sports car racing and drove for various teams the entire season, sometimes only selected races in the Rolex Sports Car Series . In 2008 he also drove the first races of the season for Andretti Green Racing in the American Le Mans Series . He has been a full-time driver for Action Express Racing since 2013 . In 2014 he was together with Joao Barbosa and Sebastien Bourdais , the 24 Hours of Daytona win and also the prototype class the title in conjunction with Barbosa United SportsCar Championship and the North American Endurance Cup win. In 2015 he won the Sebring 12 hour race .

After the 2019 Daytona 24-hour race , he announced his retirement from active racing
