Christian Lindberg (born February 15, 1958 in Danderyd , Sweden ) is a Swedish trombonist , composer and conductor .

Life

Christian Lindberg grew up in an artistic family because his parents were both painters . His love for music was at the age of six years by the film Help the Beatles decisive influence. His desire to follow in Ringo Starr's footsteps was spoiled at a music school because he was supposed to learn to play the military drum first.

He started playing the trombone at the age of 17 , influenced by Jack Teagarden . Two years later he was a member of the Royal Stockholm Opera Orchestra . At the age of twenty he left this orchestra to study in Stockholm, London and Los Angeles.

After five years of study, he began a career as a full-time solo trombonist and occasional composer and conductor . The breakthrough came when he was nominated Soloist of the Year by the BBC in 1991 - alongside Yo-Yo Ma and Gidon Kremer . He himself says that it was a special honor for him to have been recognized as a relatively unknown person alongside established soloists of such quality at the time.

In December 1999 he was a soloist in the world premiere of the trumpet concerto solo by Luciano Berio with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , further performances in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, England, Australia and Vienna followed with renowned orchestras. To date he has recorded more than 60 CDs in total. His interpretations are usually characterized by strict faithfulness to the work, which he uses with great virtuosity. His repertoire consists of more than 100 pieces that span all epochs of modern music - classical trombone concerts, rarities and unknown pieces as well as his own compositions and works written especially for him, such as the Motorbike Concerto by Jan Sandström or the concert by Eliasson is different . His Helicon Wasp premiered in 2003 at the Helsinki International Trumpet Festival. Lindberg impresses with technical ability and sporty appearance, he also runs marathons .

He was chief conductor of the Nordic Chamber Orchestra (2004–2011), the Swedish Wind Ensemble (2005–2012) and the Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra (2009–2018).

Starting in 1989, together with the CG Conn company, he developed his own design for the quart valve and his own range of mouthpieces .
