Christian Pross (born July 3, 1948 in Göppingen ) is a German doctor, psychotherapist and medical historian. His work focuses on the areas of medicine under National Socialism and psychotraumatology .

Live and act

Christian Pross was born on July 3, 1948 in Göppingen . After attending school and high school at the Taunusgymnasium Königstein / Ts. From 1968 to 1974 he studied human medicine at the University of Heidelberg . From 1971 to 1972 he was a DAAD scholar at the Bristol Medical School UK . From 1976 to 1983 he completed his training as a general practitioner at the Children's Clinic of the Rudolf Virchow Hospital in Berlin and at the Moabit Hospital . In 1980 he was at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the early childhood and perinatal morbidity after childbirth by ventouse and forceps with special consideration of protracted delivery history doctorate .

1983–1984 Christian Pross headed a project on the persecution of Jewish doctors at the Moabit Hospital . The knowledge gained was presented in an exhibition and a book in 1984.

From 1985 to 1986 he worked as a scholarship holder at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research on the German "reparation policy" and on the medical assessment of concentration camp survivors.

From 1987 to 1988, as a scholarship holder of the German Research Foundation, he conducted research at the Institute of the History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore / USA in a project on the attitude of German émigré doctors to medicine during National Socialism .

On the occasion of the 92nd German Medical Association in Berlin in May 1989, Christian Pross, as project manager, organized the exhibition The Value of People - Medicine in Germany 1918–1945 .

In 1991, after the first Gulf War , he was commissioned by the Berlin Medical Association and the Berlin Senate to lead the relief campaign to help Berliners Kurds . As part of this action, a field hospital for Iraqi Kurdish refugees was operated in southern Turkey. In addition, five rural outpatient clinics have been set up in northern Iraq .

Treatment center for torture victims Berlin (bzfo) - research projects

The preoccupation with the trauma of the concentration camp survivors and the experience gained during the relief campaign for Kurdish refugees led to the establishment of the Treatment Center for Torture Victims Berlin (bzfo) in 1992 , which Christian Pross headed until 2003.

  • 2000 Completion of training in psychotherapy based on depth psychology at the Institute for Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics Berlin (advanced training institute of the DPG ), additional title in psychotherapy, Berlin Medical Association.
2004/2005 training as a supervisor ( DGSv ).
  • 2006 Habilitation at the Medical Faculty of the University of Göttingen . Subject of the habilitation thesis: "Traumatic after-effects of war and persecution - consequences for medical action."
2008 honorary professor at the Charité University Medicine Berlin .
