Christian Rode
Christian Rode (born July 20, 1936 in Hamburg ; † February 15, 2018 in Berlin ) was a German actor , dubbing , radio play and voiceover speaker .
Life
Christian Rode, son of the painter Heinrich Rode (1905–1983) and nephew of pastor Waldemar Rode , was discovered for the stage by Gustaf Gründgens in his hometown and completed his training there at the drama school of the German Theater , where he made his theater debut in 1956. Numerous engagements, including in Darmstadt , Stuttgart , Berlin and Frankfurt am Main , should follow.
From the mid-1960s he also worked for film and television. The polyglot Rode also took on roles in international productions such as René Clément's war film Brennt Paris? with Jean-Paul Belmondo , The Odessa Files (with Jon Voight ) or as Duc de Vivonne alongside Michèle Mercier in Untamable Angélique based on the novel by Anne Golons . In addition, Rode played in the comedy Nessie - the craziest monster in the world , the television series It doesn't always have to be caviar according to Johannes Mario Simmel (with Siegfried Rauch in the role of Thomas Lieven), the multi-part Factory of the Officers based on Hans Hellmut Kirst and as a guest in numerous television series such as Direktion City , Detective Agency Roth and Die Wicherts von next door . In the second part of Harald Reinl's Die Nibelungen he played Dietrich von Bern , although he also dubbed the role of minstrel Folker in both parts.
Christian Rode has worked extensively in dubbing since 1966 and has dubbed roles in more than 600 films. He lent his distinctive voice to prominent fellow actors such as Michael Caine (including the Battle of Britain ), David Carradine ( Torches in the Storm ) , Rock Hudson (The Ambassador) , Jeremy Irons (Everything just theater) , Derek Jacobi (in the Cadfael films after Ellis Peters ), DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy (second narrator in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan & Star Trek III: In Search of Mr. Spock ), Christopher Lee (among others in Sleepy Hollow ), Peter O'Toole ( Rosebud ) , Anthony Perkins ( demolition squad Atlantic ) , Michel Piccoli ( The Last Woman ) , Christopher Plummer (including a spy between two fronts ), Vincent Price ( The Raven - Duel of the Magician ) , Omar Sharif (Ashanti) , Ray Milland ( The Uncanny Guest ) and Paul Henreid as Viktor Lazlo in Casablanca . He was also the successor to Wolfgang Kieling, the German voice of Bert from Sesame Street . In a re-dubbing of 20 episodes of the series Kojak , he spoke the title role of Theo Kojak in 1998, since Edgar Ott , the regular speaker of Telly Savalas , had already passed away.
As early as the mid-1950s, Christian Rode worked as a radio play speaker for West German broadcasters. In the radio play series Masters of the Universe he lent his voice to Beast Man. Fans of the series The Three Question Marks knew him from the episodes The Singing Snake (25), The Magic Circle (27), The Super Whale (36), Path of Fear (137) and the Screaming Fog (162); in TKKG episode 31 (kidnapping in Mondscheingasse) he lent his voice to Gus Uckmann. He also spoke for the radio play series Gabriel Burns , Sherlock Holmes , Dreamland Grusel , Burg Frankenstein and, since October 2007, Tony Ballard . He also spoke to General Gordon B. Smith on the Mark Brandis radio plays Company Dolphin and Riot of the Robots . Until recently, Christian Rode was off-speaker for the Galileo program on ProSieben (as of 2011). In the 2007 season he was also heard at the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg as an off-speaker for Winnetou I. Since 2007 Christian Rode has been working as speaker-lecturer together with speaker colleague Carmen Molinar in order to promote young talents. In April 2014 the school was renamed after him into the Christian Rode Speaker's School. As the PLAYtaste magazine reported, he died suddenly and unexpectedly on February 15, 2018 in Berlin. He gave his last interview in 2017 to the media agency "Media-Paten".
