Christian Starck (born January 9, 1937 in Breslau ) is professor emeritus for public law at the University of Göttingen and a former judge of the Lower Saxony State Court .

Life

After studying law in Kiel , Freiburg and Würzburg , Starck passed his first state examination in 1960 and was awarded a doctorate in 1963 in Würzburg. iur. utr. PhD . In the following year he passed his second state examination in Munich and worked as a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court until 1967 . After Starck had initially embarked on a civil service career in the Bavarian interior administration in 1968, he completed his habilitation in 1969 in public law and legal philosophy in Würzburg. From 1971 until his retirement in 2005 he was professor for public law at the University of Göttingen. From 1991 to 2006 he was also a judge at the Lower Saxony State Court .

From April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012 he was President of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , of which he has been a full member since 1982.

His students include Karl-Eberhard Hain , Volker Schlette , Thorsten Ingo Schmidt , Thomas Schmitz , Gunnar Folke Schuppert , Christian Winterhoff , Rainer Grote and Ines Härtel .

Works

He is best known among lawyers for his collaboration on the Basic Law Commentary by “von Mangoldt / Klein” and for “Götz / Starck”, a handy collection of state laws of Lower Saxony relevant to studies. In addition, he is co-editor of the legal journal (JZ).
